Tales from Bar Study II
July 11th, 2010 § Leave a Comment
We’re about 2.5 weeks from the bar exam, and people’s levels of negativity are increasing dramatically. I’ve decided to stop following the #barbri trend on Twitter. I was only halfheartedly following it before, but I checked it out this morning, and people are going insane. A small sampling:
@LauraVogel Exactly. #barbri RT @yankeechick42 I hate everything right now. #barreview
@ETlaw07 i just want to take this damn test now and get it over with! #barbri i’m contemplating hitting myself with the #pmbr book now.
@tortfeazr Powers of appointment are making me hyperventilate a little. #BarBri #panic
And my favorite:
@GracieLaw with the amount I paid for #barbri, should be free coffee and cookies and lunch and beer everyday.
Now, I’ve never taken the bar exam before. I hope never to have to take it again (but I’ll probably move at some point, so yeah . . . ). But it seems to me that one of the keys to cracking this test is staying positive thruout the study process leading up to the exam itself. A good friend of mine has made it her own personal challenge to keep her friends positive, and she can be heard at least once daily with the mantra on her lips: “Poz it up, people.”
We’ll see how this all comes out, but I strongly believe that griping about how much you hate Bar/Bri (the course that we all paid for to help us pass the bar exam) can only hurt you. If you have legitimate complaints about the course, take those up with the Bar/Bri staff. Otherwise, suck it up, do the work, quit complaining, and lose the sense of entitlement—and you might even find that you enjoy life during bar prep.
