Simplicity

One of my life goals is to live simply.  With the so-called new economy making it apparent that we have to be more mindful of our consumption of resources, I think that many Americans are now finding a desire to live more simply.  While I think this is an important step in our continued development as a nation, I recognize that for many Americans, it’s a difficult one.  I see this as I make the transition into a profession and all of the middle-class trappings that come with it.  Our culture places a high value on the accumulation not only of stuff, but also on collections of other kinds, e.g., how many appointments we can collect, how many hobbies, how many friends.  There’s no question that each of these has its benefits, but just as with everything else, there’s an upper limit on how much of each intangible we can collect while still maintaining our sanity.

I’ve started an offshoot blog that tracks my progress as I simplify my life.  I hope you will find something useful from my recorded progress, and I also hope that if you have tips or suggestions that you will leave a comment for me and other readers.

Please enjoy.
